At 13 and 17, Lucas and Ava were removed from their mother’s care due to her struggle with alcohol addiction. Their grandparents immediately stepped up to provide a safe, loving home—even in their 55+ community. For two months, the siblings were thriving. Then, without warning, they were removed from their school in the middle of the day and placed in foster care with strangers. The county claimed they couldn’t live in the grandparents' 55+ community. Devastated, the grandparents called the Advokids Legal Helpline. We guided them in requesting visitation, meeting with the child welfare agency, and petitioning the court for the children’s return.
