These drugs, recognized as carcinogens, pose significant risks even at low doses. What are the potential complications from antineoplastic agent exposure? • Detectable levels in urine, • Biomarkers of oxidative stress, • DNA damage and chromosomal abnormalities, • Adverse reproductive outcomes such as infertility or miscarriage, • Increased risk of cancer. 💡However, specific work practices can help decrease the frequency, duration, or intensity of exposure to hazards. For example, perioperative teams should • Transport antineoplastic agents in sealed containers with proper labeling. • Avoid using a pneumatic tube system for transport and avoid busy routes. • Use disposable linens and single-use instruments during exposure-related procedures. • Follow decontamination protocols and avoid aerosolization when cleaning exposed tools.
