Central Library's Octavia Lab (@labslapl) was buzzing with creativity during last month's Illuminated Heritage Masks program with @kaosnetworkz! Participants used LED circuits to create their own personalized light-up masks, and made great use of the lab’s photo studio to model their looks. Part of Getty’s PST ART initiative, No Prior Art: Illustrations of Invention is an exhibition at Central Library’s Getty Gallery and citywide program series that explores the intersection of art, science, and invention. On view through May 11—so get in on the fun! Link in bio for more programs like this. #LFLA #LAPL #NoPriorArt #DTLA #Art (fb)

Eminent legal scholar and ACLU President Deborah N. Archer presents an essential account of how transportation infrastructure―from highways and roads to sidewalks and buses―became a means of protecting segregation and inequality after the fall of Jim Crow. Together with civil rights activist Helen Jones-Phillips and LAist's Austin Cross, Archer will discuss her new book Dividing Lines and examine the limits of current civil rights laws, which can be used against overtly racist officials but are less effective in addressing deeper, more enduring, structural challenges. RSVP to join us on Thursday, May 8 at Richard J. Riordan Central Library! https://www.eventbrite.com/e/dividing-lines-registration-1275229478699 (fb)
