Today marks the 139th birthday of the beautiful 1886 Crescent Hotel & Spa! Designed by St. Louis architect Isaac S. Taylor and completed in 1886 at a cost of $294,000 by the Eureka Improvement Company, it was a limestone edifice of luxury and opulence boasting such cutting edge features as electric lamps and bells, steam heat, and a hydraulic elevator. Spring water was also eventually piped directly into the hotel from the nearby Crescent, Bays, and Congress Springs.
