Oakland Bloom – Empowering refugee and immigrant chefs through food entrepreneurship

We provide training and support for aspiring chef entrepreneurs from refugee, immigrant, and low-income communities who seek to start their own food businesses. We are a diaspora led group organizing to support food, economic and immigrant justice and opportunity in Oakland. Oakland Bloom’s work sits at the intersection of racial, food and economic justice. We are designing accessible pathways to business ownership with chefs who aspire to launch their own businesses - with a focus on working class migrant chefs and chefs of color, equitable cooperative food business models and neighborhood resilience. Oakland Bloom’s mission is to radically shift the historically exploitative and toxic nature of the food service industry to one that is healthy, equitable and accessible for traditionally marginalized communities. Programs and project initiatives are grounded in restorative economics, equity and racial and social justice.
