Overview
Academics in Motion Inc. (AIM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the educational and athletic development of young people, particularly those in resource-constrained schools.
Mission
The mission of AIM is to "level the playing field" by providing schools with limited resources a comprehensive youth development program. This program is designed to support the academic and athletic growth of students, fostering a healthier and more productive adulthood.
History
Founded in 2005 by Terry Quinn and Jim Presbrey, AIM evolved from an initial initiative known as the Give Back Foundation. Quinn, a seasoned professional in high tech software sales and a sports enthusiast, was inspired by his coaching experiences with student athletes from underprivileged backgrounds. Presbrey, with extensive experience in sports counseling, brought valuable expertise to the organization.
Program Structure
- Program Management: AIM handles all administrative aspects of the program for its school partners, ensuring smooth implementation.
- Community Coalition: A collaborative group consisting of school personnel, community leaders, parents, and students working to support the program's objectives.
- Youth Development Coach (YDC): Key personnel who serve as on-site representatives of AIM, crucial to the program's success.
- Training & Development: Comprehensive training is provided to YDCs and other stakeholders to ensure effective program delivery.
Evaluation and Impact
AIM emphasizes the importance of measurable outcomes in its programs. By demonstrating positive results through data-driven evaluation, the organization enhances its credibility and sustains its business model.

Academics in Motion Inc. has received a 4-star rating on Charity Navigator, indicating strong financial health, accountability, and transparency.
Founders
- Terry Quinn: Co-founder and Executive Director. Quinn is a graduate of Springfield College and has a background in high tech software sales.
- Jim Presbrey: Co-founder, Vice President, and Secretary. Presbrey holds degrees from Ithaca College and Springfield College, with expertise in sports counseling.
Role in the Community
AIM plays a significant role in mentoring students who may otherwise lack access to robust educational and athletic opportunities. By focusing on community involvement and youth development, AIM continues to make a positive impact in the lives of its participants.
