Hi everyone, I’m Mona! A conservationist and biologist from Germany - and to be honest, I’m still learning to say “I’m a photographer” without hesitation. I’ve spent nights and days with frogs, documented research, and walked through forest with Indigenous guardians. I’ve held my camera in muddy hands, trying to capture just a fraction of what I felt being there. But still, the word “photographer” often felt too official, like I had to wait until I was more. More gear, more experience, more permission. That ache of not yet — it’s something I think many young women in conservation photography carry. This week, I’m taking over @girlswhoclick stories to share a few of the moments that have shaped me — from habitat protection and species monitoring to community connection and Indigenous knowledge. Because in conservation, so much remains unseen. These stories matter. And I’ve come to believe that sharing them might be one of the most powerful tools we have. Photography, for me, is about revealing what data alone cannot. That’s the photographer I want to become. And I’m becoming — photo by photo. Through muddy boots, late nights, blurred frames, and soft light, I’m learning: photography isn’t about perfection. It’s about presence. About listening. It’s not just about taking pictures. It’s about creating them — and telling the stories only you can tell. So here’s to the frog portraits, to the field notes, to the self-doubt and to the stories not yet told. Thank you, Girls Who Click, for creating this space to grow alongside other women who have something to show you. Feel free to reach out anytime. Let’s talk frogs. Or light. Or fear. Or awe. (fb)
