Vallejo Piecemakers

Overview

The Vallejo Piecemakers is a U.S. non-profit quilt guild dedicated to promoting quilting as an American folk art, fostering community engagement, and supporting local charitable initiatives.

Purpose and Activities

The primary goals of the guild include providing educational resources and inspiration for quilters, sharing the beauty and history of quilting with the community, encouraging quilt making and collecting, and sponsoring various quilting activities. One of its notable projects is creating quilts for community outreach, including working with non-profit organizations and individuals in need[1][2].

Community Outreach Programs

The guild actively engages in community service through its outreach program, which meets weekly to produce and distribute quilts to those in need. This includes coordinating with other non-profit groups and utilizing the Florence Douglas Center for crafting sessions open to both members and non-members[4]. Notably, the group has undertaken projects such as creating quilts for veterans through the Quilts of Honor initiative and producing placemats for homebound seniors in Solano County[1][5].

Governance and Membership

The organization is governed by a board of officers and guided by Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised. Membership is open to individuals interested in quilting, with annual dues applying to those who decide to join after attending a meeting as a guest. The guild also offers programs and workshops for its members[1][3].

Structure and Committees

Vallejo Piecemakers operates through several committees, each focused on different aspects of quilting and community service. This includes a Community Outreach Committee and a Quilts of Honor Committee, which specifically creates quilts for armed services veterans. The guild's leadership ensures that all activities align with its mission to support both quilters and the broader community[1].

Welcome The Vallejo Piecemakers began in August of 1987. There were nine originalmembers who decided to form our club. The first newsletter was published and the first Opportunity Quilt based on a sailboat theme was begun that year. This sailboat became the quilting clubs logo.
