We are remembering 💐 How can we expect her to give of her body to nourish her babe, if we do not nourish her first? How can we expect her to soothe her child, if we do not soothe her first? How can we expect her to create beauty for the new generation, if we do not create beauty for her first? We are remembering, How to honor these rites of passage How to touch the tenderness of tears How to mourn what we leave behind when we bring in new life We are remembering How to make meaning with listening and laughter, How to receive the power in the song of a grandmother, We are remembering How to center mothers How to birth a new Earth How to revillage We are remembering. Pictured here are the women of Lost Valley gathered for a Blessingway at our beloved Grandmother Maple tree, a tree who has held rituals for this community for many years. We are honoring one of our community members, Alyssa as she prepares to birth her first baby. While many are familiar with baby showers, we are remembering how to honor the emotional and spiritual rite of passage associated with birthing a child through a Blessingway. Blessingway ceremonies are found in indigenous tribes of Turtle Island, most commonly in the Dine, though if we go back far enough most of our ancestors probably created ritual around such profound events as a birth. This Blessingway was hosted by @moonmamaartemisia , Lost Valley’s local birth and postpartum doula.
