Bark Lice are not actually lice; they are beneficial insects that appear in compact gatherings on the trunks of crepe myrtles and live oaks from May to July. They are harmless to the humans and trees; they actually clean the tree of debris on their bark. So, if you see them on your trees, take a moment to observe and appreciate their "herding" nature and then leave them to continue doing their good work.
