During this premodern media era national magazines were the center of popular culture. The pages of these periodicals were the entertainment for the masses and their illustrators charged with capturing the essence of the time and imagination of the country. Everetts style was born from the famed Brandywine school named after the colony of artists working in the Brandywine Valley.
