Sky Cross, Inc.
Sky Cross is a non-profit, tax-exempt service group that serves the poor on the Texas-Mexico border. Sky Cross was founded in the summer of 1995 with the objective of providing basic food (98%)and some medical supplies(2%)to very poor families and orphans through established missionaries on the Texas-Mexico border area, primarily in Mexico. The missionaries then use their resources for education, especially the children. This combination has proven to be very successful in combating continual poverty. Everyone who works for or with Sky Cross does not receive a salary or monetary gift, so that 100% of all donations are spent directly for food and medical supplies, unless a donor requests otherwise. All expenses are paid by Sky Cross volunteers.
Sky Cross, Inc.
Sky Cross, Inc. is a nonprofit organization with a focus on serving the poor on the Texas-Mexico border. It was founded in 1995 by Terry and Kathy Bliquez, a retired U.S. Air Force couple. The organization is headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, and operates as a 501(c)(3) charity, making contributions to it tax-deductible[1][3].
Mission and Activities
Sky Cross primarily delivers non-perishable food and limited medical supplies to very poor families and orphans in the colonias, which are rural villages along the border, mostly on the Mexican side[2][3]. The organization works in collaboration with missionaries and other service providers in those areas. Notably, all individuals involved with Sky Cross work on a volunteer basis, ensuring that 100% of donations go directly to purchasing essential supplies, unless otherwise specified by donors[2][5].
Founding and Leadership
Terry Bliquez, a general aviation pilot, initially envisioned using his flying skills to transport goods to those in need. However, the organization evolved to rely more on ground-based logistics. The organization was incorporated in Texas in the summer of 1995 and received its tax-exempt status shortly after[2]. David K. Young, involved with Sky Cross since 1998, serves as the current President[2][3].
Financials
Sky Cross relies heavily on contributions for its operations, with nearly all of its revenue coming from donations. The organization has significant assets but no liabilities, indicating a stable financial foundation[1]. In recent years, contributions have accounted for over 90% of its total revenue, with investment income making up the remainder[1]. All donations are channeled directly towards the purchase of essential supplies, reflecting the organization's commitment to maximizing the impact of its funds[4][5].
Governance and Transparency
Sky Cross is governed by a board of directors, which includes former founders and other community leaders. The organization follows ethical practices, including regular reviews of conflict-of-interest policies and a diverse board recruitment process[3].
