The members of UE Local 613 — teachers, speech language pathologists, and registered nurses at the Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children — are educators, so it is fitting that this past spring, they decided the strengthen their local union through an educational series. The “UE Education Series” was created by Local 613 member Alison Oniboni, who was elected president of the local in April. “Our members just kept saying that we needed training,” said Oniboni, “but at the same time, the majority of the membership wasn’t showing up to the intermittent regional trainings that happen every now and then.
