Alec Huth ’22 and the Irresistible Whimsy of Fruit Face Somewhere between a childhood lemonade stand and the creative hum of a silk-screen printer, Alec Huth found her flavor. Today, she’s the mind—and hands—behind Fruit Face, a sustainable clothing brand that feels like Berkeley spirit stitched into cotton. At first glance, her strawberry-heart “I <3 SF” shirt is just cheeky enough to turn heads at Dolores Park. But look closer, and you’ll spot the deeper thread: a belief in slow fashion, local production, and playful rebellion against disposable culture. What began in her apartment with small-batch embroidery experiments has ripened into a full-blown label stocked at Madewell and Lisa Says Gah, while staying grounded in organic materials, circular production, and made-in-SF soul. Rejection from the Haas School of Business didn’t deter her. Instead, she custom-built a major that married design with sustainability, and found community in local pop-ups and craft fairs. There’s a lesson here—about reinvention, yes—but also about the rare kind of creativity that laughs in lowercase, makes patches from flaws, and believes a fruit can be a face, a brand, and a calling card all at once. Huth’s journey reminds us that style isn’t just what you wear—it’s how you make it matter. #YoungAlumsSeries #UCAlumni #FruitFace #SlowFashion #SustainableStyle #BerkeleyMade #LocalLove #AlecHuth #DesignWithPurpose #EcoFashion #CalAlum #BayAreaMakers 📸 Courtesy of Mahayla Rheanna / Leu San / Alec Huth (fb)

Educational Mini-Series: From Beirut to Berkeley EP 4: "Palestine Beyond Conflict” “What if we told you Palestinian studies aren’t just about war?” Too often, the word “Palestine” is reduced to a headline, a crisis, or a geopolitical flashpoint. But in Prof. Dr. Ussama Makdisi’s course—Palestine and the Palestinians: A Modern History (History 110D)—students are invited to engage with something far richer. The course explores modern Palestinian history through literature, art, resistance, memory, music, and intellectual life. It asks students not only to learn, but to listen—to Palestinian voices across generations who have preserved culture, language, and identity despite profound displacement. This approach reframes the narrative: Palestinian history is not defined by what has been lost, but by what has been fiercely, creatively sustained. Since its introduction at UC Berkeley, the course has doubled in enrollment—speaking to a growing desire among students to understand Palestine beyond the limits of conflict. ✨ This Educational Mini-Series honors UC Berkeley’s enduring commitment to fostering community, championing freedom of expression, and encouraging a more nuanced, inclusive understanding of global histories.
