Gamelan Tunas Mekar performs music and dance of Bali, Indonesia. Based in Denver, Tunas Mekar, Inc., established in October of 1988, is a State of Colorado 501(c)(3) nonprofit, all-volunteer organization which has a mission to: learn and perform the traditional and new music of Bali, Indonesia and offer a cultural exchange about the unique island of Bali with the schools, institutions on the arts, and the general public. Under the direction of Balinese composer and Artist-in-Residence I Made Lasmawan, Tunas Mekar was founded in 1988 with the intention to provide American audiences the rare opportunity to experience one of the world's most beautiful and sophisticated performing arts.

The group presents traditional and new music for Balinese gamelan at music festivals schools private events local venues specially produced concerts and by special invitation both internationally and nationally. Modeled after typical village groups found throughout Bali and learning by traditional methods this community ensemble provides American audiences the rare opportunity to experience one of the worlds most fascinating cultures. Upcoming Events 2022 Denver Mayors Awards for Excellence in Arts Culture Global Award The Arts Culture Global award is presented to an individual or organization that has brought Denvers arts and culture to the national or world stage.
