For 500 years, the Kassel Hand has kept its secrets. That all changed when Associate Professor of History Heidi Hausse brought together a team of Auburn faculty and students to uncover the truth. In a powerful collaboration between the Auburn University History Department and the Auburn University Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, the team recreated the 16th-century design using 3D modeling, hands-on research and deep curiosity. Their work shows how the Kassel Hand functioned and deepens our understanding of early assistive technology and the people who relied on it.
