Los Angeles Astronomical Society Inc
In 1926, local amateur telescope makers organized the L.A. Telescope Makers Society; and in 1939 adopted the name the Los Angeles Astronomical Society in recognition of the growing public interest in astronomy. Our primary exempt purpose is Education. Our mission is to promote the study and enjoyment of the science of Astronomy among our members and our community at large. We accomplish our mission by holding monthly meetings with speakers on Astronomy and related sciences. We operate 2 observatories where our members and guests can use science-grade instruments to observe the night sky. We also operate a city-owned observatory in Monterey Park, CA. for the benefit of the general public. We support Los Angeles owned Griffith Observatory's monthly public outreach events. We also support numerous outreach and educational event organized by local schools in the Greater Los Angeles Area. We also sponsor field trips to other observatories and sites of scientific or educational interest.
