The Valley Economic Alliance

The Valley Economic Alliance is a [501(c)(3)] non-profit organization located in the San Fernando Valley region of California. It operates as a strategic collaboration between public and private stakeholders, including governments, corporations, small businesses, educational institutions, and community organizations.

History

The Valley Economic Alliance was founded in 1994 following the devastating Northridge Earthquake. The disaster highlighted the need for a centralized entity to coordinate relief efforts and rebuild the community. The organization was established by visionary leaders from groups such as the Valley Industry Commerce Association and the United Chambers of Commerce[2][3].

Mission and Objectives

The mission of the Valley Economic Alliance is to foster economic vitality and prosperity in the San Fernando Valley, which includes cities like Burbank, Calabasas, Glendale, Los Angeles, and San Fernando. The organization serves as a catalyst for sustainable economic development, focusing on four primary areas:

  • Economic Development: The Alliance leads efforts to attract new employers, assist businesses in accessing resources, and drive investment into the region. It also provides free business assistance programs to support startups and existing companies in navigating regulatory environments[1][2].

  • Promoting the Valley: This initiative highlights the benefits of living, working, and studying in the Valley. It encourages tourism by showcasing local amenities and attractions, thereby strengthening the hospitality industry[1][2].

  • Education & Workforce Development: The Alliance collaborates with educational institutions to enhance workforce skills and connect businesses with trained employees. This initiative is critical in addressing labor market needs, especially in a post-pandemic environment[1][2].

  • Livable & Sustainable Communities: The Alliance convenes discussions on crucial community issues, including housing, healthcare, environment, transportation, public safety, and quality of life, to support regional prosperity[1].

Operational Pillars

In addition to the above initiatives, the Valley Economic Alliance emphasizes Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion as part of its operational framework, ensuring that all initiatives are inclusive and equitable[2].

The organization leverages technology, such as Microsoft Outlook and Google Suite, to streamline operations. It focuses on investing in people and community engagement, functioning as a hub for communication among diverse groups[2].

Funding and Partnerships

The Valley Economic Alliance is supported by a network of approximately 60 corporate funders and around two dozen lending partners. These partnerships are crucial for sustaining its initiatives and providing financial assistance to businesses in the network[2].
