CYPRESS GROVECEMETERY In 1838 Cypress Grove Cemetery became the first cemetery built to honor New Orleans volunteer firemen and their families. FIREMEN39S CHARITABLE BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION The Firemens Charitable Benevolent Association was formed in 1834 to help protect New Orleans from frequent fires.
