History

Beta Gamma Sigma was established on February 19, 1913, through the union of three local societies: Beta Gamma Sigma at the University of Wisconsin, the Economics Club at the University of California, and Delta Kappa Chi at the University of Illinois. These institutions are recognized as co-equal founding members. In 1933, Beta Gamma Sigma merged with Gamma Epsilon Pi, expanding its membership to include women.

Undergraduate students must rank in the top 10% of their class after completing at least half of their degree coursework to be eligible. Graduate students need to be in the top 20% for master's programs, while doctoral students are eligible post-dissertation defense. A one-time membership fee is required for induction.
