As a non-profit, created by the TN Dept of Agriculture, Division of Forestry in 1991, we have been working closely with this Division to achieve this mission. Our organization complements the mission of the Division of Forestry through our education efforts and community engagement endeavors.

Scientists created a high-quality genetic map of the white oak tree (Quercus alba), showing its complete set of DNA arranged in chromosomes. They compared this tree's genes with those of other oak species to understand how oaks evolved over time. Their research found that most of the chromosomes stayed the same, but some genes—especially those related to plant defense—changed quickly.
