Being Churchin the Modern World Who are the Marianist Lay Communities. The Marianist Family is a group of four associations in the Catholic Church that share a distinctive spirituality charism and mission. The Marianist tradition emerged in the wake of the French Revolution as a way to reinvigorate both the Church and the world in the style of Mary mother of Jesus. This way is grounded in the idea of community and a discipleship of equals and promotes these ideals through works of faith and social justice.
