Talk about a warm 🥵🥵 day! But we are all hanging tough and doing well! 💪💪 I'm going to grab some block ice 🧊 in town for the kiddos to enjoy in a little while (most of them already have pools 🏊♂️🏊♀️ theyre enjoying, but I'm grabbing the rest while I'm out as well).... It's about $5/block at the local safeway, so I figured I'd see if anyone wanted to sponsor a block of ice for their favorite dog! (Walmart, who is $1/block cheaper, is sold 🚫 out of block ice according to the website) Quickest way for us to receive funds is: venmo (business) @hslk9 and PayPal - hslk9@highsierralifeline.org And yes, don't worry, any of the dogs that want/need to come into an AC'D dog trailer are and will be in the ac. But not every dog wants to- a lot of them just enjoy their outdoor kennel time as they have nice dog houses, all kinds of shade, their pools, their toys, their beds, some are equipped with misters, some have solar fans... When it’s hot 🥵 outside during the day, we swap to early 🌅and late🌛walks. Here’s handsome pants, Ian, during his walk last night. 😍😍 His night walk is purely “Ian-time”. I called 📣 him back to me a few times, but for the most part, I just let him follow his nose and explore. These ‘sniff 👃walks’ or ‘free time’ allow him to use his senses to explore his environment, which gives the dogs a sense of control. He can run, jump (just not on the humans) and just be his goofy self while he gets one-on-one time. Ian is a GOOD 😊 boy! He is your typical young Malinois? (Idk 🤷♀️ , if you guys think we should DNA test him and find out, let us know in the comments!) Ian has been the SWEETEST 😍 dog- thus far we have seen absolutely zero aggression. What we *have* seen 👀 is a smart, energetic dog that likely had zero boundaries or respect taught to him; that did not get nearly the physical exercise or mental stimulation a young fella like him needs. He was not given direction nor did he get to put his basic instincts and talents toward something productive 👨🏫. This is (of course irresponsible breeders play another large part, but that’s a rant for a different time) how we wind up with Malinois in the shelters who have bite records, who are over-aroused, who escape, who self-harm, who are reactive, who lack confidence, who are destructive, who are untrained, and some who are darn-near uncontrollable. 😭 He is smart 📝. He is athletic 🏃♂️. He has a pretty decent confidence level that will only get better. He is TRAINABLE! Another 6-months of not having training and boundaries and physical/mental stimulation….. he would have been a disaster 😕. Ian is jumpy and mouthy. He barks at other dogs and can play a little too rough. But, this guy….. this guy we got to ‘in time’. He’s already turning into a REALLY GOOD dog. Just in the small time we’ve had him. He needs to continue his training for a bit, but I do not foresee anything keeping him from being adoptable. When he is ready, he needs an experienced adopter who is committed to continuing his training and letting him use his natural instincts and talents in a productive way- he loves water, he loves toys, he’s food-motivated and praise-motivated. He’ll have a lot of fun doing some kind of sport and he’s athletic enough, he’ll probably do well! (fb)
