IRIS began as a group of infectious diseases and pulmonary specialists focused on sharing research interests in the field of respiratory infections. The SARSCoV2 pandemic created a paradigm shift in perspective and IRIS leadership recognized the importance of expanding the scope of interests beyond respiratory infections. Today IRIS has a wider area of interest that includes promoting education prevention and collaboration in the fields of respiratory and other infectious diseases.
