The Hawai‘i Marine Mammal Consortium is composed of marine mammal scientists from institutions around the country who share an interest in marine mammal research and conservation in the waters surrounding the
Hawaiian Islands. We have a strong commitment to increase and promote knowledge and education about marine mammals and the marine environment to help island communities value, understand and protect
Hawai‘i’s marine life. A fundamental tenet of this consortium is that it is larger than any of its individual members, that it will outlive all of us and that it is founded on a vision of collaboration and excellence.

Hawaii Marine Mammal Consortium Marine Research Education and Conservation Spring 2025 We have kicked off our 2025 research season. The number of whales in January seemed greater than usual so we started our scan sample data collection early and we are extending it further into the season to better sample whale numbers in our changing world. We also deployed the soundtrap ST600 in early December 2024 to capture the early portion of the singing season. Finally our newly donated SeaLegs vessel continues to take us out to collect fluke photographs and boatbased recordings.
