Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association (SORBA)
The Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association (SORBA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and developing sustainable mountain biking trails across the Southeastern United States. Established in 1989, SORBA is the leading mountain biking organization in its region, actively working to ensure public lands offer fun, challenging, and environmentally friendly trails for mountain bikers.
Mission and Vision
SORBA aims to provide everyone with access to the social, physical, and mental benefits of mountain biking. Its vision is to create healthy, economically vibrant, and environmentally sustainable communities throughout the Southeast, centered on well-planned and accessible trail systems.
Organization
SORBA operates through forty-seven chapters across seven states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. The organization emphasizes core values such as stewardship, partnerships, education, and inclusiveness, ensuring that mountain biking is accessible to a diverse range of participants.
Activities and Impact
SORBA focuses on advocating for trail access, raising funds for trail development, building new trails, and maintaining existing ones. The organization relies on volunteer support, with volunteers contributing thousands of hours each year to these efforts. SORBA also supports educational programs and resources for trail maintenance and development.
Chapters and Membership
Membership in SORBA involves joining one of its local chapters, which allows members to support trail development and enjoy benefits such as exclusive discounts and community engagement opportunities. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, all contributions to SORBA are tax-deductible.
By combining advocacy, community outreach, and trail stewardship, SORBA plays a significant role in enhancing the mountain biking landscape across the Southeast.
