Creating Lasting Memories Since 1897 MacKenzies Little Jewel in Oakland In January 1937 Claremont hosted the Oakland Open. Samuel Jackson Snead a 24yearold unknown southerner at the time won his first professional tournament at the Oakland Open. Sometime after his win Snead saidI remember a little jewel of a course out West in Oakland named Claremont. Claremont Country Club is one of 15 clubs in The Alister MacKenzie Society with certified MacKenzie course designs.
