" Candlelighters of Southwest Florida, Inc. was established in 1983 to provide continuing support, education and assistance to families of children diagnosed with cancer or blood disorders. From the time of diagnosis, through treatment and even at the time of a child's death Candlelighters is there to aid the family. Cancer is not a disease of one person, cancer is a disease of an entire family therefore, the free programs and services benefit the entire family. Through better understanding of the disease as well as overcoming the feelings of isolation, a family is better able to cope with the daily ups and downs of the disease and its long term effects. Our Mission TheAmerican Childhood Cancer Organization ACCO began in 1970 by a group of parents whose children were diagnosed with cancer. They came together to lobby for more research and to support each other through the diagnosis and treatment of this life threatening disease at a time when very few children survived.
