SMARTS is a non-profit offering visual and performing arts programs for youth and community in Southeastern MA The Southeastern Massachusetts Arts Collaborative, better known as SMARTS, is a multidisciplinary arts organization whose mission is to forge a school-community link through the arts that supports existing arts programs in schools and makes arts education accessible to all young people through in-school and out-of-school community programs. The Collaborative operates under the aegis of the following convictions:• Education in the arts and the development of creativity is a right and a need of all children;• Considerations of minority status of any kind, or of financial limitation, should not preclude participation of any young person;• Collaboration and sharing among teachers, agencies and professional artists of the region can serve to elevate and make more relevant the arts experiences of young people; • Emphasizing process over product ensures the development of skills and confidence that will carry into all aspects of life; • Young people should have access to quality arts enrichment opportunities locally.
