Rehabilitation & Health, Inc. (East Boston Rehab - EBR) was founded in 1968 and has been licensed by the Department of Public Health and providing residential rehabilitation since December of 1970. The purpose was simply to provides shelter and housing to the homeless suffering from alcohol abuse. Since that time we have successfully serviced thousands of clients most of whom have been homeless, dually diagnosed, ex-offenders and on probation and/or parole. Our program has evolved and expanded, and has become more integrated in providing quality comprehensive services. Our program's mission is to provide a safe and supportive environment where individuals with co-morbid disorders, primarily substance dependence, and various types of social dysfunction continue to receive education, training in the development and use of recovery and daily living skills. Our services vary in intensity of staffing, level of client functioning, length of stay, and intensity of services depending on client needs.East Boston Rehab's primary service program consists of group residential services, and transitional housing services for adult males many of whom are chronically homeless ex-offenders at high risk for recidivism who struggle with alcohol/substance abuse disorders, mental health issues, and health related conditions. This community based rehabilitation treatment program aims to provide residential care on a 24 hour basis to individuals who require this rehabilitative service to overcome homelessness, strengthen and maintain sobriety, to live a life without criminal behavior, to ensure stability and to maximize each person's ability to live independently via secured housing. Length of stay is variable, up to six months in the residential recovery home. Our goal is to provide support, supervision, and guidance in activities of daily living where clients receive psychopharmacologic monitoring, individual and group counseling and education, occupational/vocational therapy, HIV/AIDS education, support in the development of social, recreational, and independent living skills, family education and counseling, program-based case management, and housing and aftercare services. All staff are cross-trained to demonstrate competency with both psychiatric and substance abuse disorder rehabilitation. Client involvement in mental health and addiction peer recovery programs is strongly emphasized and facilitated. Our program structure maintains baseline expectations for treatment participation; however, all expectations are individualized based on client need. Regular contact with Probation Officers, Parole Officers, other appropriate collateral agencies and utilizing our 3/4 House, Sober House immediately next door and our apartments up the street have helped us to ensure that clients continue to the next level of treatment or recovery/transitional support services. The continuous collaboration with collateral agencies allows for a solid continuum of care, continued recovery and rehabilitation process of these clients, and allows for continued services and supports to minimize the set-backs that are often seen in their treatment; typically in the form of returning to pretreatment behavior. EBR aspires to provide the above services to our consumers via a culture of recovery and caring.
