American Discovery Trail Society
The American Discovery Trail Society was formed in 1996 for the purpose of creating, conceiving, developing and promoting America's first coast-to-coast non-motorized recreational trail. The 6,000+ mile trail system runs through 15 states. We help fulfill the mission of the federal National Trails System Act of 1968 which calls for trails in both urban and rural settings for people of all ages, interests, skills, and physical abilities, the 1990 Trails for All Americans Report, which envisions trails that will serve all Americans, connect the people and places of the nation, providing diverse experiences while respecting the natural and built environment. The Act and our Organization promote the enjoyment and appreciation of nature while encouraging greater public access.
