When you walk into Alphapointe and head toward the front desk, one of the people you might meet is David Ray, who will greet you with a friendly and helpful hello. From the moment you arrive, the 13-year Alphapointe veteran will ensure that you are promptly and politely taken care of. David was born in 1965 in the small town of Louisiana, Missouri. He was diagnosed with retinopathy of prematurity at birth. At five years of age, David would begin his academic career at the Missouri School for the Blind, where he would remain from kindergarten through his senior year of high school. David would go on to live in Saint Louis and work at Lighthouse for the Blind, get married and have a son. Then he moved to Springfield, where he lived for 16 years. While there, he received an associate's degree in basic education from Ozark Technical Community College. David moved to Kansas City in 2012 and began working for Alphapointe. Since then, David has worked in our office products and plastics departments but spends time filling in at the front desk where he welcomes visitors into the building. “I love talking about blindness, and the things that I can do so that society will know,” says David. “People only see the negative stereotypes, they see what I can’t do. Me, the only thing I can’t do is drive, other than that I can do whatever I want. There is so much I can do, that I’m really not missing anything.” David might be blind but, more importantly, he is a husband, a father, a huge fan of Royals and Cardinals baseball.
