David & Goliath International Ministries
DGIM'S vision is a "cradle-to-the-grave" solution to the worldwide problem of abused, abandoned and at-risk children living in sewers, on the streets and working as sex workers. Many relief efforts concentrate on providing children with at least one nutritious meal per day and a bed to sleep in. Not enough attention is given to preparing them for the world outside those doors and once the children reach maturity, they are sent back into the world, unprepared to face life, and are thrust back into the same environment from which they came. Unfortunately, they are no longer young pathetic waifs one would feel sympathy for and helunprepared to find work or to support themselves. Therefore, they go back to prostitution, drugs, crime, and are exploited even more than their younger counterparts. The solution is not to "park" abandoned children somewhere until they are old enough to kick out, as most government-run children's homes seem to do around the world. The only viable solution is to begin the healing process by creating a loving, caring environment, in which the children can feel loved, protected and accepted as they begin their education. There are many small independent groups trying their best to do just that but without logistical, administrative and financial support they are doomed to fail. DGIM has a desire to partner with these independent groups and provide such support to them to help them bring their level of care to internationally accepted standards. To this end DGIM desires to instill a love of learning in the children, from kindergarten through high school, and help them reach their full potential. DGIM has established several educational alliances and also plans to implement new educational, vocational and medical technologies in its schools. As a result, the children will be able to develop into highly educated, skilled, self-reliant and motivated individuals. DGIM will identify and encourage individual strengths and help to overcome areas of weakness. A multidisciplinary approach to education focuses the child's strengths in one of four areas: college preparatory academics, technology, medical and health care services, or agricultural studies. Upon completion of their chosen field of study, the child enters a residency program and is employed at a DGIM facility for five years. This allows the graduate a safe place to hone their skills and also provides the children coming up through the system a chance to see how their peers have ?made it?, which will encourage them to succeed. Our goal is to educate every child under our care to at least a high school level. Our hope is to see them all finish college and enter the workplace. We truly believe that we are training the next academic, administrative, medical and political prospects in these countries.
