Family Voices of Alabama began in 1992 as part of a national initiative to address health care reform. It was formally incorporated on January 16, 2002, after receiving a mini-grant from the national Family Voices organization in 2001. The organization gained non-profit 501(c)(3) status on September 4, 2002.
