Emmaus LGBTQ Ministry

Emmaus LGBTQ Ministry is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a supportive community for LGBTQ+ individuals and their allies within the context of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The ministry aims to foster a safe and inclusive environment for both heterosexual/cisgender and LGBTQ+ members, focusing on their safety, well-being, and happiness.

Vision and Mission

Emmaus envisions a community where LGBTQ+ members can find support and understanding while remaining connected to their faith. Its mission emphasizes ministry to and with LGBTQ+ individuals and their families, both within and adjacent to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The organization seeks to minister to LGBTQ+ individuals in a way that draws them closer to Christ and to their community.

Activities and Events

Emmaus hosts devotionals on the third Sunday of each month, where LGBTQ+ members share their testimonies, and allies are encouraged to attend and listen. The organization also organizes various events throughout the year, creating opportunities for community building and support.

Founders and Inspiration

Emmaus LGBTQ Ministry was founded by individuals including John Gustav-Wrathall, formerly of Affirmation, and Erika Munson, co-founder of Mormons Building Bridges. These leaders recognized the need for a safe and traditional space within the Church where LGBTQ+ members could feel supported and engaged in ministry.

Community Engagement

The organization utilizes social media platforms to connect its members and facilitate ongoing dialogue. Members are encouraged to find or create local Emmaus groups, fostering a broader network of support and community engagement.
