Friends of Creamer's Field

Friends of Creamer's Field is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational opportunities and family programs at Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Mission

The mission of Friends of Creamer's Field is to inspire environmental stewardship and lifelong learning through experiences, awareness, appreciation, and conservation of the natural and historic resources at Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge.

About

The organization collaborates with the Alaska Department of Fish & Game to deliver educational programs, guided nature walks, and special events throughout the year. These activities focus on the natural ecology of the refuge and the history of Creamer's Dairy. Friends of Creamer's Field operates from the historic Creamer family farmhouse, which serves as a visitor center and features interpretive exhibits on migratory birds and the historic dairy complex.

History

The site was once a thriving dairy farm operated by the Creamer family from 1928 until 1966. When the dairy was sold, the community came together to ensure the farm fields were preserved to maintain habitat for migratory waterfowl. Today, the area is managed by the state of Alaska as part of Creamer's Field State Game Refuge.

Programs and Events

Friends of Creamer's Field offers a variety of free programs and events, including guided nature walks, educational workshops, and community festivals. Notable annual events include the Design Alaska Wild Arts Walk, Creamer's Dairy Day, and the Tanana Valley Sandhill Crane Festival. These activities are designed to engage the community in learning about and appreciating the natural and cultural resources of the area.

Volunteer and Community Involvement

The organization relies heavily on volunteer support to carry out its mission. Volunteers assist with programs and events, lead guided nature walks, and serve as hosts at the visitor center. Over 100 active volunteers contribute their time to support the organization.

Financial Support

Friends of Creamer's Field is dependent on memberships, donations, and grants to fund its programs and operations. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowable by law.
