Ithaca Welcomes Refugees partners with newly arrived refugees and immigrants as they rebuild their lives in Tompkins County. Ithaca Welcomes Refugees is a volunteer-led community initiative that fosters a welcoming and fair environment for refugees and immigrants who come to our region. Our hope is that these efforts will continue the development of Ithaca as a welcoming host community in times of great global need.

Whether finding a place to live enrolling in English classes or rebuilding community we help newcomers navigate unfamiliar systems and environments providing needed support. Current Needs Volunteer Donate Featured Story With Support from IWR Volunteers an Afghan Refugee Navigates the Hills and Valleys of Resettlement in Ithaca As I sat with Jan and IWR volunteer Glen Robertson their comfort with one another suggested theyve been friends for years. Yet the two were only introduced in January 2022 when Jan arrived in Ithaca as a refugee from Afghanistan.
