Our purpose is to encourage, engender, and support the publication of literary works of fantasy and science fiction that explore and expand our understanding of gender and gender roles. This effort includes the administration and presentation of the James Tiptree Jr. Literary Award, which is awarded annually. It also includes the Tiptree Fellowships, which provide support and recognition for the new voices who are making visible the forces that are changing our view of gender today, and Fairy Godmother Awards, which give a financial boost to a deserving writer in need of assistance to continue creating material that matches the goals of the Tiptree Award.
