The Hartford Community Center believes that today's challenges present new opportunities to meet human and social needs.  We believe that the effective delivery of these services transcends geographic lines, and social and political boundaries.  HCC works within a service environment that has become increasingly diverse, transient, and complex.  We have therefore, embraced a fresh vision-strategy and leadership approach to engaging our existing work.Our organization is committed to developing new partnerships and alliances: (local, state, national, and international) that will leverage in dynamic resources and opportunities to help local residents.  Our goals are to help improve literacy rates and educational attainment; to promote economic self-sufficiency; to promote community health and wellness; and to help crush the condition and stigma of poverty within our community.Our Strengths-based programs and services include year round youth-development (entrepreneurial, health and wellness, workforce, service learning and education), adult basic skills and job-readiness, computer literacy and language classes (ESOL, Conversational Spanish), and food and nutrition education for children and families. Over the past three years, the community center has also responded to growing needs to growing basic for food, clothing, and housing-related advocacy and referrals. We have experienced a growth of at least 75% in these areas within the West End community. Recent activities have included clothing and winter coat drives for needy residents, Thanksgiving meals and turkey distribution, and our annual Christmas Toys for Tots outreach partnership.
