Gritman Medical Center Inc. is a nonprofit organization operating a critical access hospital located in Moscow, Idaho. Established in 1898 by Dr. Charles L. Gritman, it is named in his honor and serves as the largest private employer in Latah County.

History

Dr. Charles Gritman first arrived in Moscow in 1893 and began providing medical care to the community. He converted the McGregor House Hotel into his hospital, effectively launching Moscow's first hospital. Dr. Gritman was renowned for his dedication to care, often making rural house calls by horse and buggy.

This expansion also included the acquisition of the Moscow Family Medicine clinics and the creation of new family medicine clinics in the region.

Gritman Medical Center has been recognized among the top 100 Critical Access Hospitals in the U.S. It holds the Gold Seal of Approval for Hospital Accreditation from The Joint Commission. The center is highly rated for patient experience, with a five-star rating from the U.S. government and high patient satisfaction scores across various departments.

Education and Partnerships

Gritman Medical Center partners with the University of Washington School of Medicine through the WWAMI Medical Exchange Program, providing educational opportunities for medical students. Additionally, it collaborates with the University of Idaho to offer advanced anatomy laboratories and learning centers.
