Hastings Homestead Museum – A unique time capsule illustrating over two centuries of occupancy by a single family. The Hastings Homestead Museum Illustrating over two centuries of occupancy by five generations of a prominent western Maine family the 1822 Hastings Homestead tells a story of change over time as members of the Hastings family enlarged and updated their house but left unchanged many furnishings and interior arrangements as reminders of the past. As a museum facility the Homestead presents extraordinary opportunities for teaching and learning about everyday life in Maine and northern New England in the past. The Hastings Homestead in Bethel represents a rare instance in which the historic furnishings of one family have been preserved by each successive generation. Every room portrays the changing styles and tastes of Maine life during the last two centuries.
