In collaboration with Doxa Development, we were proud to unveil HeART to Canvas at the Genesee County Community Safety Resource Fair on Saturday at Berston Field House. This powerful new project brings healing, remembrance, and community connection through the transformative medium of art. Over the past few months, local artists have partnered with families impacted by violence to create hand-painted portraits that honor the lives of loved ones lost. “These paintings are more than portraits,” said Adrian Montague, Executive Director of Doxa Development. “They carry stories of joy, grief, laughter, love, and resilience. They’re a reminder that healing happens when we gather, when we listen, and when we remember together.” Participating artists include Erinn Schultz Art, LZ Artist, Martinez Studio, Annette Ingram, and David Puertaz with Art City. “At Crime Stoppers, we believe safety and healing go hand in hand,” said Julie Lopez, Executive Director of Crime Stoppers of Flint & Genesee County. “The HeART to Canvas project is a deeply moving tribute to lives lost and a powerful reminder of the strength within our community. It’s about creating space for healing, raising awareness, and building connections that help prevent future violence. We’re honored to help bring this project to life at the Community Safety Resource Fair.” Funding for the HeART to Canvas project and portions of the fair was awarded from the National Association of VOCA Assistance Administrators through a grant from the Office for Victims of Crime, within the Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice, to promote community awareness of crime victims’ rights and services in regard to 2025 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. #flint #community #healing #healingjourney #art (fb)
