Natural Refrigeration Foundation

The Natural Refrigeration Foundation (NRF) is a 501c(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the use of climate-positive, safe, reliable, and efficient natural refrigerants. Founded in 2006 by the membership of the International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration (IIAR), NRF aims to be the leading resource for evidence-based science and educational development in the natural refrigeration industry.

Mission

NRF's mission is to support the climate-positive use of natural refrigerants through research, scholarships, academic alliances, and outreach. This involves developing industry talent and fostering a deeper understanding of the most earth-friendly refrigerants.

Vision

The organization envisions itself as the premier global resource for promoting and educating the public about natural refrigerants, with a focus on safe, reliable, and efficient practices.

Activities

• Research and Education: NRF supports research initiatives to improve the use and understanding of natural refrigerants like ammonia. It also fosters academic alliances to develop educational programs.
• Scholarships: NRF offers scholarships, notably the Founders’ Scholarship program, to students pursuing degrees in engineering or related fields with an interest in refrigeration. Recipients are invited to IIAR conferences for networking and professional development.
• Industry Outreach: NRF works closely with organizations in the industry to promote best practices and the adoption of natural refrigerants.

Partnerships

NRF has partnerships with several key organizations, including the Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA), Refrigerating Engineers & Technicians Association (RETA), ASHRAE, and various trade associations.

Governance

The NRF Board of Directors includes industry leaders from different sectors, ensuring diverse perspectives and expertise. As of recent reports, Dave Malinauskas serves as the chair from Cimco Refrigeration.
