Saint Augustine Catholic High School's mission is to facilitate academic excellence in a Catholic environment where students are encouraged to grow in the Christian life through dialogue, proclamation, charitable outreach, worship, and celebration.At Saint Augustine Catholic High School we believe in the dignity and worth of all individuals. We believe that with parents as primary educators, the school will develop the unique and valuable qualities our students possess and create thoughtful, constructive members of society who live and exemplify Catholic values.St. Augustine Catholic High School is located on the southeast side of Tucson. It operates under the governance of the Diocese of Tucson. In October 2001, Bishop Manuel Moreno appointed a board of directors to establish and open the school. In November 2001, the by-laws and articles of incorporation were signed and submitted to the State of Arizona, and in November 2002, Sr. Lauren Moss, OSF was hired as the founding Principal. On August 11, 2003, St. Augustine Catholic High School opened its doors to the inaugural freshman class.The school experienced several challenges during its formative years, including the death of Sr. Lauren and several subsequent turnovers in administration. In 2011, the school adopted a president/principal model. Since then, the school has experienced not only a steady increase in enrollment, but also a commitment from the Diocese of Tucson, an active Board of Directors, and benefactors who are collectively focused on driving the school toward financial stability. Notable is the increase in enrollment from 125 students in 2011 to over 200 students for the 2016-2017 school year. St. A's serves a diverse population that is about 54% Hispanic, 38% White/non-Hispanic, and 16% other ethnicities including 12 Asian students. The school has also opened its doors to several international students, and is beginning to solidify its niche on Tucson's eastside while establishing relationships with not only the Catholic elementary schools, but also the public schools and the nearby community at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.Since its inception, faith has always been foremost at St. Augustine as well as a commitment to a rigorous academic program that meets the needs of high achieving students as well as those who need intervention. St. A's has built a reputation for developing a community of opportunity and has built a formidable enrichment program including the fine arts and a competitive athletic program.
