Handweavers Guild of Boulder

The Handweavers Guild of Boulder is a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting handweaving and related fiber arts in the Boulder community. Founded in 1964 by a small group of Boulder women, the Guild officially adopted its name in 1967. Today, it has over 300 members who are passionate about fostering awareness of the importance of fiber arts, particularly those made by hand, and encouraging participation in various forms of fiber art.

Mission

The primary mission of the Handweavers Guild of Boulder is to explore the lore and techniques of handweaving and related textile arts, stimulating interest in these media. The Guild aims to enrich the lives of community members through education, demonstrations, and collaboration, promoting cultural heritage and empowering individuals to engage with textile arts.

Community Engagement

The Guild engages in community outreach programs, including demonstrations of traditional and contemporary fiber art skills for historical, art, and school groups. These services are provided free of charge, highlighting the organization's commitment to sharing its expertise with the community. Additionally, the Handweavers Guild of Boulder participates in local events such as the Boulder County Fair and hosts its annual Fiber Art Show & Sale at the Boulder County Fairgrounds.

The Handweavers Guild of Boulder obtained 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status from the IRS in March 2017, effective from November 1, 2016. This status allows the organization to operate as a charitable educational entity.

Colorado Gives Participation

Since 2019, the Guild has been part of ColoradoGives.org, a statewide platform facilitating secure donations to nonprofits in Colorado. The Guild participates annually in Colorado Gives Day to receive community support.
