IRU's mission is to protect and restore the rivers and fisheries of Idaho. Since the founding in 1990, IRU has become the only statewide river conservation organization working to safeguard Idaho's imperiled wild steelhead and salmon, protecting and enhancing stream flows and riparian areas, and defending and promoting the Wild and Scenic qualities of our wild rivers. IRU believes healthy rivers and ecosystems are critical to Idaho's communities.

In addition to stressors such as climate change loss of biodiversity poorly managed and inefficient water systems water quality and declining aquifers Idahos fastgrowing population and increased demand for multiuse landscapes and natural resources is amplifying stressors on our rivers.
