Phi Theta Kappa

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is a nonprofit international honor society for two-year colleges, founded in 1918. It operates under the mission to recognize academic achievement among community and technical college students, providing opportunities for personal growth, leadership development, and service.

History

The organization traces its beginnings to Kappa Phi Omicron, an honorary group chartered in 1910 at Stephens College in Missouri. In the spring of 1918, eight Missouri junior colleges for women came together at Stephens College to form a new honor society called Phi Theta Kappa, modeled after Phi Beta Kappa. Over the years, Phi Theta Kappa has grown significantly, now with nearly 1,250 chapters in 11 nations and over 4.3 million inducted members.

Organization Structure

Membership requires an invitation from a local chapter, typically based on achieving a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5.
