Realistic Living is a 501-C-3 nonprofit organization incorporated in the state of Texas, USA in 1984. The organization focuses on promoting progressive Christianity and fostering discussions on ethics, religious topics, and social change.
Mission and Activities
Realistic Living is led by a three-person faculty that hosts various programs, reviews books and movies, and publishes articles and manuals. They also manage a journal published twice a year. The organization is involved in social activism, including organizing the bioregional movement and developing local community leadership methods. Additionally, they conduct research in areas such as feminism, ecology, economics, education, and interreligious dialogue.
Founders and Faculty
The founders of Realistic Living, Joyce and Gene Marshall, are accomplished teachers of religion and ethics. Gene brings an educational background in mathematics, physics, and theology, while Joyce contributes her teaching experience and university training in music and education. The Marshalls live in North Texas in a straw-bale house that serves both as their residence and a meeting place for Realistic Living activities.
