The Winton Club is a non-profit service organization founded in 1911, focusing exclusively on supporting Winchester Hospital in Massachusetts. The organization consists of more than 200 women dedicated to enhancing healthcare services through various fundraising activities and volunteer work.

History and Mission

Originally established by twelve women in response to an appeal to sew linens for the Cottage Hospital, the Winton Club has evolved significantly over the years. It was named in honor of Winton, the ecclesiastical signature of the Bishop of Winchester, England. Initially, the group's activities included sewing linens, which were discontinued in 1979. However, they continue to contribute to the hospital's linen budget as part of their annual donations.

The Winton Club's mission is to provide volunteer services and financial support to Winchester Hospital, with a commitment to making a positive impact in the community.

Activities and Fundraising

Annual Cabaret

Since 1920, the Winton Club has sponsored an annual cabaret event held in late January. This five-night event features a volunteer cast of local residents and hospital personnel, attracting over 2,000 attendees each year. The proceeds from this event significantly contribute to the club's annual fundraising goals.

Gift Shop and Other Initiatives

The Winton Club manages the Winton Gift Shop located in the lobby of Winchester Hospital, where members serve as buyers, treasurer, publicity coordinators, and chairpersons. The shop generates substantial revenue through sales, which are reinvested into supporting hospital services. Additionally, the club engages in various other fundraising activities, such as holiday fairs and community-sponsored events.

Financials and Impact

The Winton Club is designated as a 501(c)(3) organization, making donations tax-deductible. The organization's primary sources of income include sales from the Winton Gift Shop and proceeds from the annual cabaret.
