Overview

Building for Good, Inc. is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization that connects volunteer construction lawyers with charities and nonprofit organizations needing construction law services. The organization aims to alleviate the financial burden of legal fees on mission-driven organizations, enabling them to focus their resources on serving their communities rather than Lawyer expenses.

History

Building for Good, Inc. was launched by a group of attorneys from the American Bar Association (ABA) Forum on Construction Law. These professionals recognized the potential for pro bono work within their field and sought to bridge the gap between volunteer lawyers and nonprofits needing construction law assistance.

Services

The organization provides a platform for nonprofits to find qualified, local attorneys who can offer a range of pro bono legal services related to construction law. These services include:

• Transactional Work: Drafting and negotiating construction and design agreements, reviewing contracts.
• Dispute Resolution: Assistance with construction litigation, mediation, or arbitration involving design or construction defects.

Vision and Mission

Building for Good, Inc. aims to help charitable organizations fulfill their missions by ensuring that their resources are dedicated to delivering services rather than legal fees. The organization emphasizes skills-based volunteering, promoting local philanthropic efforts through its network of construction lawyers.

Operations

Initially, Building for Good launched its services in Massachusetts, Florida, New Jersey, and Minnesota. It planned to expand to additional states to enhance its reach and impact across the U.S.

Eligible Organizations

Eligible organizations include a wide range of charities and nonprofits, such as foodbanks, homeless shelters, organizations supporting individuals with disabilities, schools for underserved populations, conservation and art organizations, and animal protection groups.
